Windows 11 Notepad gets improved context menus in latest update

PCWorld

Ever since Microsoft killed WordPad in 2024, the much-simpler Notepad app has been receiving several new features--almost as if it's evolving into a better, more modern version of WordPad. Meanwhile, Microsoft is introducing an even simpler text editor called Edit. Some of the recent additions to Notepad include spell check, AI-generated text, and Markdown formatting--and the improvements aren't done yet. The latest news is that Notepad will soon have updated context menus in Windows 11, reports Neowin. In Notepad version 11.2507.26.0, which is currently rolling out to Windows Insiders, the updated context menu now matches the look of Windows 11 24H2's context menus, with quick actions for Copy, Cut, Paste, Select all, and Delete, plus other actions like Write, Rewrite, Summarize, Define with Bing, and more.

ChatGPT's Studio Ghibli-style images show its creative power โ€“ but raise new copyright problems

AIHub

Social media has recently been flooded with images that look like they belong in a Studio Ghibli film. Selfies, family photos and even memes have been re-imagined with the soft pastel palette characteristic of the Japanese animation company founded by Hayao Miyazaki. The update significantly improved ChatGPT's image generation capabilities, allowing users to create convincing Ghibli-style images in mere seconds. It has been enormously popular โ€“ so much so, in fact, that the system crashed due to user demand. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems such as ChatGPT are best understood as "style engines".

Windows 11's latest update is kind of insane, in a bad way

PCWorld

Microsoft has split the future of Windows between two user groups: those with AI-powered Copilot PCs and those without. Microsoft now says that the latest version of Windows 11--that's Windows 11 version 24H2--will only be offered to those with Copilot PCs. Microsoft said last Saturday that the company has now resumed rolling out Windows 11 version 24H2 to the Release Preview Channel with Build 26100.863. But in a support note, Microsoft adds: "Important: Windows 11, version 24H2 is only available for Copilot PCs devices." It's an odd choice for a company that has been mildly obsessed with migrating all of its users to a single code base.
